About TarTubes
At TarTubes, our mission is simple. We want people to enjoy their pre-rolls while keeping tar out of their lungs.
The idea for TarTubes started with a friendship. Nancy Domenichelli and Diana Langle, both from Springfield, Massachusetts, met through a community app and connected while volunteering on a local political campaign. Working together on campaign materials at a coffee shop, they quickly became friends and soon discovered they both enjoyed smoking cannabis. That shared interest sparked a conversation that would change everything.
Diana, a longtime tobacco smoker and cannabis user, had always used a disposable filter to capture tar from cigarettes, but there was no solution for pre-rolled joints. One day, while smoking together, they realized a cigarette filter would not fit on a joint. That simple question, why doesn’t the filter fit on a joint, led to the idea for Tar Tubes.
The pair experimented with paper, tissue, cardboard, and even a plug from Diana’s husband Allan’s workshop. With a little creativity, they adapted the filter to fit the tapered end of a pre-roll joint. That first working model became the original Tar Tube.
Seeing the potential, Nancy, who was nearing retirement from her transcription business, and Diana approached the mechanical engineering department at Western New England University. Professor Dan Hamel helped draft blueprints and created the first 3D-printed prototype. With guidance from friends, cannabis users, and an angel investor, the product developed into the Tar Tubes we have today.
TarTubes LLC is now officially up and running, with Nancy as President and CEO and Diana as inventor and CTO. Every Tar Tube is simple to use. Just insert a filter, attach your pre-roll, and enjoy. Each package includes one reusable Tar Tube adapter and 28 disposable filters, ready to use right away.
From local 3D printing to testing at events like the New England Flower Expo, Nancy and Diana have worked tirelessly to make smoking pre-rolls smoother and more enjoyable. Their motto sums it up perfectly:
Don’t choke on the toke. Lose the tar, keep the high.
